Intelligent Agents

What is Intelligent Agents?

An intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment, processes information and chooses actions on its own in order to reach a goal. Today the term usually refers to software built on large language models that follows instructions, draws on knowledge and calls tools such as a search function or an API. How much an agent may do independently should be decided deliberately. Example: an agent answers customer questions using the product documentation.

How KI.ordo helps

In KI.ordo, agents combine instructions, a Claude model and their own knowledge; they cite sources and say openly when they do not know something.

Agentic

“Agentic” describes AI systems that do more than answer a single question: they pursue a goal over several steps, plan, use tools such as web search or APIs, check intermediate results and decide what to do next. An example is an assistant that categorises a request, looks up information and prepares a draft reply. Clear boundaries, logging and human approval at critical points are essential.

Vertical AI Agent

A vertical AI agent is tailored to a specific industry or specialist task, such as customer support in e-commerce, appointment booking in medical practices or sales enquiries in mechanical engineering. Unlike general-purpose assistants, it knows the terminology, processes and rules of its field because it is equipped with suitable instructions, knowledge and tools. As a result, it usually delivers more precise and reliable results within its domain.

Embodied AI Agents

Embodied AI agents have a physical or simulated body through which they perceive their surroundings via sensors and act on them through movement. Examples include warehouse and household robots, humanoid robots and characters in simulations where robots are trained before real-world use. The challenge lies in combining perception, planning and safe action in an unpredictable world.

Chatbot

A chatbot is a program that receives questions in text or speech and answers them in a dialogue. Simple chatbots follow fixed rules and decision trees, while modern ones use large language models and understand freely worded requests. Typical uses include customer service, internal help desks and appointment requests – for example a website chat that answers questions about delivery times around the clock.
