Language identification

What is Language identification?

Language identification automatically determines which language a text is written in, such as German, Italian or Spanish. Classic methods analyse characteristic letter sequences, while large language models recognise the language as a by-product. It is used to route enquiries to the right team, trigger suitable translations or reply in the other person's language. Very short texts and mixtures of several languages are difficult.

How KI.ordo helps

KI.ordo agents reply in the language in which a question is asked; the language model recognises it itself.

Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Natural language processing is the branch of AI that enables computers to analyse, understand and generate human language in text or speech. It covers tasks such as translation, classification, summarisation, sentiment analysis and question answering. Rules and statistical methods once dominated; today the field is shaped by large language models.

Text Classification

Text classification automatically assigns texts to predefined categories, for example emails by request type, reviews by sentiment or documents by topic. Previously this required training dedicated models on labelled examples; today large language models can often assign categories from a description alone. This makes it possible to pre-sort enquiries and route them to the right team faster.

Speech recognition (speech to text)

Speech recognition, also called ASR (automatic speech recognition), automatically converts spoken language into written text. Modern systems use neural networks trained on large amounts of audio recordings and cope reasonably well with accents and background noise. Applications include dictation, subtitles, voice assistants and the transcription of meetings and customer calls. Technical terms, proper names and poor audio quality remain common sources of error.

Corpus

A corpus is a structured collection of texts or language data compiled for analysis, research or training language models. It can be general, such as news texts spanning many years, or domain-specific, such as all of a company's contracts and manuals. Size, balance, currency and the rights to the texts determine how useful the resulting findings are.
